A market map (also known as a perceptual map, or positioning map) is simply a graph of competitors laid out upon an X-Y axis of product qualities, styles, genres, world settings, or values.

You can identify holes in the market using a market map, and subsequently address those holes with your product design and messaging.



With the market mapping tool, simply lay out your axis labels (product qualities, styles, genres, world settings, values), and then insert your competitors. 

Then, adjust the values of each axis for each competitor, and the market map may reveal a clear hole in the market which your product can address.
